Vinpro will offer its popular winter training sessions for vineyard teams from May to August.
“The trainers offer practical training in a producer’s vineyard, and it is an ideal way to hone the skills of vineyard teams before the pruning season,” says Hanno van Schalkwyk, Vinpro viticulturist and coordinator of the training.
The following will be included in each of the half day sessions:
- Basic pruning principles (short, half-long bearer and Guyot systems)
- Maintenance of pruning shears
- Prevention of trunk diseases
- Practical evaluation of the pruning team.
“Our team always picks up finer details during the training sessions, which broadens their knowledge. They often learn to apply the same techniques than on the farm, but it is supported by a logical, scientific foundation, which enables them to better understand the reason behind certain actions. Getting the same advice from different sources also enhances its credibility,” says Dirkie Morkel of Bellevue Estate.
The cost is R350 (VAT excluded) per learner and a minimum of 8 persons is required per session.
