The South African wine industry body, Vinpro, has welcomed Stephan van Zyl as a new board member for the Northern Cape region.
Stephan’s roots lie in Groblershoop where he also attended school. After school, he enrolled at Stellenbosch University where he obtained his B.Com in Mathematics and Computer Science in 1991. After this, Stephan worked in Johannesburg as an accountant and system developer for a few years. In 1997 he moved back to the Northern Cape and planted wine grapes and grapes for raisins on the family farm.
As a young farmer, Stephan became involved in all the agricultural structures in the area and his contribution to the wine industry speaks volumes about his love for wine and agriculture. In 2006, Stephan was elected director of Orange River Cellars. He also served on the board of Wynkelders SA. The technological development of the wine industry and farming in general is very important to him and he likes to write user-friendly computer applications for leisure.
“We are excited to welcome Stephan as a new board member to Vinpro,” says Anton Smuts, chairman of the Vinpro board. “Stephan is innovative and has a knack for technology. He brings a new set of skills and knowledge to the table, and we look forward to the difference he will make at Vinpro and in the South African wine industry.”
