It’s been a productive season for our senior agricultural economist, Pierre-André, who has tirelessly been travelling to different regions for the 2019 production plan. The first trip started on 23 July in Olifantsrivier and the last one will take place on 11 December in Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. Pierre-Andre traveled just over 5093 km’s by car and took two flights (Between Cape Town and Upington).
Here are some of the highlights of the year:
- Over 50 additional production units year on year (~23% growth in participation)
- One new study group (expanded to also include Hemel-en-Aarde in the Cape South Coast)
- Went to block level this year: Over 45 000 deliveries have pulled in with this year’s Production Plan (and matched to nearly 7 000 blocks)
According to Pierre-Andre, the “Wine-wheel” is turning in the right direction for the average South African Wine grape Producer. He says in some areas this wheel is turning faster than others – but it is turning indeed.
“This being said continued and sustained improvement in the profitability on farm-level will be required to stimulate large scale reinvestment.”
Pierre-André will present his last two presentations next week.
