Vinpro welcomed new employees to the team over the last few months. Vinpro’er chatted with them about their first few months.
André van Wyk | Vititec CEO
Q: What was your first day at Vinpro like?
A: Very quiet because most people were still on leave! I am glad I could ease into my first day without the rush of new people. This made me a bit more at ease in my new environment.
Q: How have the first few weeks been and how have you adjusted?
A: It has been very interesting, especially regarding (i) the work my fellow team members are conducting outside in the nurseries and foundation/mother blocks and (b) the integrated working of the greater Vinpro group within one building. I feel I have adjusted quite well and am excited about what the future holds for the Vititec team.
Q: Why did you decide to work here?
A: The old cliché of doing what you are passionate about is quite true – I am technically minded. I love the broader grape industry and its inner workings. I also love to have a balance between sitting in an office or being in the vineyards and clients. I believe this role fits the passion-picture quite well. O ja, natuurlik is daar wyn ook betrokke!
Q: What is a typical day at the office like for you?
A: So far it has been learning, seeing, asking and learning more!
Q: What have you learned about this organisation since you started working here?
A: Everyone has a purpose for their job and they are good at it. Furthermore, there is a sense of pride and passion in everyone associated with the Vititec and Vinpro brands.
Q: How would you describe this organisation in one word?
A: (Very) Progressive!
Q: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
A: Tuinmaak, visvang en DIY-projekte.
Q: Name something interesting that your new colleagues don’t know about you?
A: Mmm… I have never been hit in the face… I don’t look back when running away!!!
Q: What is the nerdiest thing you do in your spare time?
A: Play strategy wargames online.
Q: What’s the strangest talent you have?
A: I can make duck sounds.
Q: Are you reading anything right now or do you prefer series?
A: I like to read leadership and strategy articles on online platforms. To switch off in the evening watching series doesn’t hurt J
Q: Any good movies you’d recommend?
A: I am not that much into movies (except the Avengers franchise), but the last really good movie I watched that is still stuck in my mind, is Schindler’s List (and that was 27 years ago).
Q: What’s the best advice you’ve ever heard?
A: Maak ʼn besluit, al is dit ook die verkeerde besluit, eerder as dat jy GLAD NIE ʼn besluit maak nie.
