New Regional Viticulturist for Vinpro

Vinpro is pleased to announce the appointment of Gert Engelbrecht as the new Regional Viticulturist for the Stellenbosch & Cape South Coast regions. Gert has been part of the Vinpro family since 2013 serving as consultant for the Olifants River region and will take up his new role from the 1st of January 2024.

Gert obtained his BSc. Agric majoring in Viticulture & Oenology from Stellenbosch University in 2005, after which he added an honours degree specialising in viticulture (BSc. Agric Hons) from the same institution in 2006.

Armed with his academic knowledge of winegrowing supported by a wine farm upbringing, Gert started as a viticulturist at Klawer Winery from 2007 until 2009, where he then went on to become viticulturist at UniWines in Rawsonville before joining Vinpro in 2013. As Vinpro viticulturist Gert has played an important role in driving key regional projects ranging from climate monitoring through an intricate logger network, assessing new and promising cultivars, piloting fruit fly management to precision irrigation scheduling for wine quality. He is also no stranger to the limelight and regular contributor on local forums and radio in addition to being an avid musician and sound technician.

“We are extremely excited to welcome Gert to the Coastal region. He brings with him a strong technical ability accompanied by excellent interpersonal skills and wealth of experience” says Etienne Terblanche, Consultation Services Manager.
