The Viticulture platform of the Institute for Grape and Wine Sciences has the main mandate to strengthen and expand activities within the viticulture teaching and research environment. On 23 September, the platform hosted the VinPro consultation team’s visit to Stellenbosch University’s viticulture training facilities at the Department of Viticulture and Oenology.
The purpose of this event was to give feedback regarding current research projects and to build relationships between researchers and industry. Interaction was also aimed at encouraging dialogue to identify joint goals and to discuss opportunities for collaboration. Prof Melanè Vivier and Dr Albert Strever gave feedback regarding the IGWS Viticulture Platform’s flagship project. The project consists of two components. One is the robotics project which involves the development of a vineyard robot with the ultimate aim to promote automation and to support intelligent systems in viticulture. – Lucinda Heyns
