The Western Cape Department of Agriculture recently exhibited cutting edge technology which is set to revolutionise the country’s agricultural sector.

Alan Winde, Minister of Economic Opportunities, opened the event at Elsenburg, emphasising the importance of innovation for the agricultural and agro-processing sectors to thrive.

Some of the ground-breaking products included a web mapping application which provides access to updated spatial intelligence, the use of satellite technology to analyse crop growth and water use and a mobile app for farmers to access key agricultural indicators, interactive touch-screen kiosks providing sector information, as well as web-based information portals on “green” practices and agricultural stats, were also showcased.
