It’s time to enter your vineyard teams for Vinpro’s comprehensive series of training courses, which will be held in the respective wine grape growing areas from May to September 2020.

“We know that top quality wines start in the vineyard, and more specifically with the people who nurture it every day,” says Vinpro viticulturist Hanno van Schalkwyk who coordinates the training. “We therefore help wine grape producers and their teams to get the best from their vineyards and wines by transferring practical skills, and explain the motivation behind it.”

Vinpro equipped more than 1 000 people with the best wine grape cultivation techniques last year, thanks to financial support from the Vinpro Foundation. Columbit came on board this year as an additional contributor, which will help expand its footprint. “We are especially excited about hosting the first training session in the Klein Karoo this year,” Hanno says.

The training series includes ten modules that cover the full spectrum from vineyard establishment to the harvesting of wine grapes. Each module is presented as a separate session, enabling producers to only register their teams for the sessions that will fulfil their specific needs.

“The one day courses kick off with a presentation and video in the morning, which attendees can follow in their printed notes. After lunch we go out to the vineyard where possible to hone the skills even further through practical demonstrations,” Hanno says.

Producers can enter their teams for any of the prescheduled one day sessions or contact the training office to arrange for a session on their farm. Half day courses are also available on request and only focuses on demonstrations.

The following one day courses are available:
Identification of pests and diseases: 6 – 26 May
Fertilisation: 21 and 28 May
Pruning: 27 May – 17 June
Soil management: 23 June and 30 July
