André van Wyk has been appointed as chief executive officer at Vititec, the trusted supplier of high quality vineyard plant material to the South African wine and table grape industry, from 1 January 2020.
André was a production manager at Dutoit Fruit’s fruit packing division for the past four years. Previous positions include manager of market access and technical support at the South African Table Grape Industry (SATI) and service manager at the Perishable Products Export Control Board (PPECB).
André will officially take over the reins from Nico Spreeth on 1 March 2020, following his retirement as Vititec’s CEO at the end of February.
“I look forward to working with the Vititec team to add even more value to the South African wine industry through its high quality plant material and service delivery,” André says. “Difficult times, such as those the wine and broader agricultural industries have experienced over the past few years often serve as a catalyst for innovation and new, focused thinking, which I believe will strengthen the industry even further.”
Vititec is an affiliate of the industry body Vinpro and based in Paarl, with premises in Vredendal and Grondves near Stellenbosch and six nurseries in the Clanwilliam and Piketberg regions. The company focuses on virus elimination in vineyard plant material, as well as the development, propagation and supply of viticulturally and oenologically selected plant material in the form of grafted vines and vine plant material suitable for grafting.
Vititec delivers more than 95% of the scion plant material and nearly 50% of rootstock plant material to the South African wine industry.
